RPi consumes only a few watts of power so it seems to be ideal torrent client platform – it can run for days and slowly (or not) download the content from internet. Setting up Torrent client is very easy. Here is how to do it…
We will install torrent client called Transmission. Before we do that lets update and upgrade our packages.

After installation we need to configure it a bit, but don’t worry, it will take only a few minutes. Configuration file is /etc/transmisson-daemon/transmission.json. There are several values we need to change – here is the list of modified parameters (we will be modifying the rest but in more human way later on). Before editing the config file stop daemon (if you stop daemon after editing the file, your changes will be overwritten):

First we’ll get rid of authentication when connecting to Transmission using web browser

To avoid loosing any control over who connects to our Transmission we can define IP address range of computers that can connect. With the below settings, Transmission will be controlled by computers with IP addresses starting with 192.168.1.* and from local host (RPi).

Also make sure that the following parameters are set in this way:

Now, start Transmission-daemon:

Now, with graphical interface you can easily set majority of Transmission properties as well as upload torrent files and start downloading. The setting you do in web interface will be reflected in settings.json file as soon as Transmission is stopped. Remember, that when you set directory for downloaded files, this directory needs to have right privs so that Transmission would be able to write files there. If it’s external drive that will host the directory (most likely that will be the case) and you’ve installed Transmission on RaspBMC, mount if with mode=000 setting in fstab as described in DLNA installation.
Is it over? It can be if you’re fine with checking the download status from web browser, but it would be much cooler to be able to monitor, start and stop torrents from XBMC, since most likely you would like to use XBMC to view/listen media (if you’re downloading one). There is XBMC plug-in that you can install from XBMC GUI. To install go to: System->Settings->Add-ons->Get Add-ons->XBMC.org Add-ons->Program Add-ons->Transmission and select install. If you disabled logging to Transmission there is nothing to configure. If you enabled it you need to enter username and password in the settings.

Hardware solutions for Eclipse IOT Challenge: Exploring LoRa/LoRaWAN
The Eclipse IOT challenge lead me to research more in depth different technologies both from the hardware and the software aspect. As part of product development and delivery one has to come up with the solution for a problem. In this case the problem is parking in urban areas, or the lack of smarter parking solutions. Such implementation would not only allow end users to have a better parking experience while saving time in finding an adequate spots but also provides the city with valuable data to be used for city planning and city improvement projects.
Once the issue is identified, it was important to find a technical solution that would align with our needs. For city implementations, given the broad area that needs to be covered, we would need a type of communication that is long range and low cost, both in cost of sending data and power consumption. I first tackled the hardware needs once the design was evaluated. The prototype for a smart city solution needs to also be scalable while adding the least overhead in cost and infrastructure needed.
In this article I will go more in depth on the research done to identify one of the key components of the project. I will share a summary of my findings in hopes of helping others that are also exploring similar solutions.
Evaluating communication solutions:
I evaluated BLE, bluetooth, cellular, satellite, Wi-Fi, SigFox, Zigbee and Lora. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, given its range limitation and cost were not considered for this prototype. Cellular communications have a higher cost as well, and at even steeper price comes satellite communication; both this options were also discarded. SigFox and LoRa/LoraWAN were the runner up candidates. I came across a comprehensive post on the comparison of SigFox and LoRa that is worth the read https://www.link-labs.com/blog/sigfox-vs-lora . The winner was LoRa.
Why Lora?
As explained by Libelium on http://www.libelium.com/development/waspmote/documentation/lora-vs-lorawan/ LoRa contains only the link layer protocol and is perfect to be used in P2P communications between nodes. LoRa modules are a little cheaper that the LoRaWAN ones.. LoRaWAN includes the network layer too so it is possible to send the information to any Base Station already connected to a Cloud platform. LoRaWAN modules may work in different frequencies by just connecting the right antenna to its socket..
LoRa which stands for long range wireless operates at a low bandwidth, meaning that its best application is for sending smaller pieces of data such as sensor data. LoRaWAN is known for its good penetration and long coverage which has been recorded to reach over 10 KM distance. LoRaWAN operates on unlicensed bands, so in most countries is legal to have you own LoRaWAN gateway cutting down the cost given that you will not have to pay a carrier or third party to supply you with the service.
Additionally a selling point for me personally was the wide accessibility to various developer platforms and hardware solutions such as DIY LoRa kits, libraries and Arduino compatible LoRa modules. The Things Network offers a strong platform with access to resources, documentation and a great community of IOT LoRa enthusiast.

Gateway
Lets take a look at one of the hardware pieces now. “Gateways form the bridge between devices and The Things Network. Devices use low power networks like LoRaWAN to connect to the Gateway, while the Gateway uses high bandwidth networks like WiFi, Ethernet or Cellular to connect to The Things Network. Gateways are routers equipped with a LoRa concentrator, allowing them to receive LoRa packets”(see more at https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/docs/gateways/). Below is a list of some gateways that were evaluated for this project. I spent time looking at their platform flexibility, the documentation and support provided and what would be the most cost effective solution for a minimum viable product (MVP).

Conclusion on gateways:
The gateway is a key portion of this solution given that the sensors will need to send the information “somewhere” where it can either be analyzed on the edge or sent to the cloud. After considering price ranges on both the parts needed for a DIY solution or a full blown gateway I considered those solutions that would be cost effective and which I was most familiar with. The “LG01 LoRa OpenWrt IoT Gateway by Dragino Tech” seemed the best approach. The developer kit counts with an Arduino developer node and a Developer gateway. Note that this solution only counts with ONE channel, in comparison with other solutions that allow 8+ channels. This was a compromise that was evaluated and given that this will be a prototype the one channel option seemed sufficient.
In the following articles I will showcase both the remaining hardware parts and the software portion along with updates on how the project is coming along.

Arduino STM 프로젝트는 이전에 Maple Project (http://www.leaflabs.com/about-maple/)에서 생성된 것으로 아두이노 IDE를 ARM 계열에서도 사용해 보자고 하는 운동에서 시작되었다.
국내 개발자, w5500 모듈을 가지고 기본 라이브러리를 활용하여 TCP/IP 서버와 클라이언트를 구현한 KEIL 프로젝트로 아래 링크에서 소스코드를 다운로드 받을 수 있다.

본 모듈은 http://www.mikroe.com/ 이라는 곳에서 기본 보드와 아주 다양한 기능별 모듈을 제공하여 Prototype 설계를 가능하게 해 준다. 그림처럼 아주 깔끔한 형태의 보드를 제공하고 있고, 물론 예제 라이브러리도 아주 고급지게 제공된다.
물론 아래와 같이 PIC 시리즈를 포함하여 AVR, ARM 소스도 같이 제공하고 있어 다양한 활용이 가능하다.

Soy novatx, ¿como chingados empiezo?
Si te interesa linux, estás en buena compañía. No te preocupes. Voy a responder algunas preguntas comunes, ¿va?
¿Que es gnu/linux?
El Proyecto GNU es una iniciativa para crear software libre, y un sistema operativo completamente libre. Fué creado por Richard Stallman en 1983. En serio este mén es un hippie digital, échale ojo a sus charlas.
GNU significa GNU No Es Unix, es un acrónimo recursivo, prepárate para mas de estos, estamos entrando en la zona super nerd.
Linux es el Kernel o núcleo del sistema, fué creado y es mantenido por Linus Torvalds, este vato se rifó un sistema operativo, solito, en los noventas.
Linux no siempre fué libre, y no todas sus variantes lo són, pero bueno, eso es para otro día.
¿Por qué no solo usar windows?
Windows te mete actualizaciones cuando se le da la gana, se pasa por los huevos tu privacidad, te muestra anuncios a pesasar de que 'pagaste' por una licencia.
Microsoft quiere controlar todo, y espiarte, para meter anuncios y vender tu información.
Si vas a usar windows, desactiva todo lo que puedas que le de datos a microsoft, no uses cortana, y si tienes windows 10 y lo vas a seguir usando, mete Open Shell, te dá un menú sin anuncios, estilo XP, win 7, o win 2000.
¿Es mejor gnu/linux?
Para muchas cosas sí. GNU/linux no tiene soporte oficial de muchas compañías de hardware, así que en muchos casos no hay driver propietario, pero eso no es problema, lo chido de la comunidad y del software libre es que hay drivers comunitarios y gratuitos.
Para juegos de PC, la neta nó. Algunos pueden correr con ciertas herramientas, y luego haré un post de eso. Se puede, pero no es tan sencillo como instalar un programita.
Para jugar emuladores, Si, a huevo, linux es super chingón para emuladores, luego hago un post, pero desde gameboy a nintendo 64, Play station. Si le pones un poquito de esfuerzo, puedes jugar muchas cosas.
Para aprender a programar/desarrollo, SIIIIIIII, salvo cosas que sean exclusivas a windows, casi todo se puede programar en gnu/linux. Desde arduinos, hasta sistemas operativos, FPGAs, desarrollo web, lo que se te pegue la gana.
Para servidor, Claro que sí, gran parte de los servidores de este mundo corren en linux.
Para seguridad informática, jaquiar el wifi del vecino xd,y pentesting, si, hay hasta sistemas de gnu/linux especializados en eso.
Para diversíon y por curiosidad, sip, mil veces sí, biemvenidx a tu nueva aventura.
Una pequeña nota:
GNU/Linux Y BSD son primxs, lxs compas de BSD, son familia, trátalos con respeto porqué al final del día, lo proyectos de BSD tienen valores muy similares a GNU/linux.
¿Necesito una compu aparte para aprender linux?
No, si tu compu puede correr una máquina virtual. Luego armo un tutorial si hay interés. Pero si tienes una compu vieja arrumbada por ahí, o puedes comprar una pc/laptop barata, adelante.
¿Necesito una compu poderosa?
Nop, gnu/linux puede ser muy ligero, desde una raspberry pi hasta literalmete tu modem/router, todos esos dispositivos pueden correr linux, aunque no recomiendo usar un modem como compu xd. Un modem es un didpositivo embebido, y corre una versión muy chica y reducida en características.
Toma mi laptop Solveig por ejemplo:
Asus X550EA
4 gigas de ram
Procesador amd a-4 a 1.5 gigahertz
La gráfica integrada del modelo base.
Un disco duro mas lento que la deriva continental
Pero ya que arranca, jala en chinga, aunque tenga como 12 años, la pantalla tiene cinta canela sosteniéndola, se le rompió el sensor de touch y le quité el vidrio, el dvd-rom está jodido y solo funciona cuando la inclinas, el puerto de carga está pegado con cartón y resistol 5000, la batería dura menos de 15 minutos. Pero sigue jalando y sirviendo.
Entonces, ¿que necesito?
Curiosidad, entusiasmo, sed de aprender y hacer cosas chidas. Ayuda mucho querer mandar a windows a la chingada. Apple también, no es que macOS sea malo, es que es bién pinche caro. (La comunidad Hackintosh es aliada, eso sí)
Va, ¿como empiezo entonces?
Primero tienes que elegir una distro, o distribución, piénsalo así: hay salsa verde, roja, borracha, macha, etc. Pero siguen siendo salsa, lo mismo con linux, las distribuciones son sabores, y así como distintas salsas van mejor con ciertos platillos, ciertas distribuciones son mejores para ciertos usos.
Para gente nueva, en mi opinión hay de trés:
Ubuntu, es accesible, yo recomiendo la variante Xubuntu poque es más ligera. Nomás ten en cuenta que son bién vendidos, y son mas de rollo de código abierto que de software libre. Si tu compu es mas vieja, hay quien recomienda LXLE, es basada en ubuntu y es mas ligerita. Si quieres algo que se parezca mas a la apariencia de güindous, muchxs recomiendan Linux Mint, igual basado en ubuntu.
Fedora, es igual buena para quienes empiezan. Es popular y apoya el software libre.
Debian, es la abuela de muchas distros y es mas estable que una placa tectónica. La he usado por años y es una maravilla, lxs desarrolladores se enfocan en hacerla estable y confiable. SI se te jode una máquina de debian, o es mal hardware, o hiciste algo verdaderamente terrible.
Yo empecé con Ubuntu 8.04 , y he usado un buén de distros: Trisquel, Xubuntu, Debian, Arch, Fedora, Parrot, Raspbian, CentOS, openSUSE.
Cada distro tiene lo suyo, encuentra la que mas te acomode para lo que quieres hacer. En lo personal me gusta mucho Arch y sus derivadas, todos mis servers llevan Debian o Trisquel.
EndeavourOS es mi distro actual.
Ya sé que dije tres, pero puse alterativas a ubuntu poque la neta no soy super fan. andan encamados con la industria, o sea se vendieron, y bueno, a cada quién lo suyo, pero eran mucho más chéveres antes.
Trisquel es una distro completamente libre, basada en ubuntu, y la neta es muy buena, ojo que en ciertas máquinas no jala el wifi poque ese driver es propietario de intel.
La comunidad de gnu/linux es chida, y hay recursos en un chingo de idiomas.
